Indicators that there are real players: (1) when you are not the first person to join the race, (2) when a player is replaced by another one as the race is starting; Otherwise, they are bots.

Are there any bots that the website uses to replace some players?
Its weird how every race I'm in people type at 30 wpm or less. I've come across one person who was at 60 wpm but that's it. I get not everybody types fast but I've seen some many slow types I genuinely can't tell who is a real person

Nothing is real.
Adding on to what my goat Daniel said, the player list at the top is organized by chronological order. You would usually be all the way to the left (if you're the first one to join). The players are first sorted into chronological order and then the bots fill in the remaining spaces. If you rejoin at least 5 seconds before the race starts, the game counts you as the last player to join, and it'll put you behind all of the real players, and then you can tell for sure who the real players are. Or, you could type in chat "duck sphere" and maybe some of us will answer. In fact, we should make that the code word (although most of our names are pretty recognizable)
