I start with a few of my fingers already positioned on the letters of the quote so I can start right away, then I just go from there. I doubt this is optimal if you learned how to type the formal way through the home keys etc. But since I learned how to type blindly through gaming and programming, my approach is less structured.

how fast are you without being on home letters
random question, but i just want to know the speed of others when they dont have their hands in the "asdf" and "jkl;" letters, does it slow you down, or are you faster without being in this position?

Well I don't know how to explain this but. "When my hands start typing..... I don't put my hands on the home row." It's just if I'm typing at a speed of 100 wpm my hands are gonna be all around the keyboard and not resting on the home row. So yeah, I don't rest my hand on the home row most of the time. But at the start I put my hand on the home row to have a better start. But I'm gonna be honest here. If I don't put my hand on the home row. It's not gonna make a huge difference. Just like 5 or 6 wpm less or something I don't know.
