I like this idea. Maybe instead of the colored lines I can allow you to select any emoji that you want as your icon?

Solo doesn't seem to work. After countdown finishes, there's no indication that I've pressed a key (but the timer is running).
Hey jdyn its shiftsilver or shifty i was the one who suggested that you put profile pics i have one more suggestion. You should make clans and you can go to a typer war where other clans can attack other clans by racing. Also I love typer.io its the best game ever and i had a typer tornament in my class and i got 1st with 97 wpm so also Thank you

Question: I typed 40 words (200 characters) in 49 seconds. I would have thought this would give me a wpm of 49 (40/(49/60) = 49), but the site told me I got 53wpm. How is the wpm calculated? This was on the text: The Urth of the New Sun

I calculate WPM such that: (total characters / 5) / (total seconds / 60). So my calculations agree with yours. After looking at the code, I appear to have implemented some sort of lag compensation that is affecting the calculated elapsed time, which becomes more egregious on an unstable internet connection. I have now removed this code, which appears to not really be working anyway, and I am now storing more in-depth information on the time elapsed of each match to see if this continues to happen. In this case, it seems that the server at the time, calculated your time be 45 seconds rather than 49 seconds. Thank you very much for letting me know about this. If you happen to notice this again, please let me know again.

Since you fixed the wpm calculations yesterday I've been using typer.io loads. I've noticed that there don't seem to be many texts as I'm typing the same ones multiple times. Is there/could there be a way to submit texts/for me to help you expand the text database of typer.io?

Hey Jdyn, do you know if you could implement the profile pictures into custom matches against my friend? I was trying to play with Alex (above comment) but we were both snails, which can make it difficult to distinguish who is who. Is there any chance the selected pictures could be implemented?

Yes, it seems that the icons don't work in the 'Group Play' section of the site, and instead all default to the snail. This is the case not only for those who join via the link, but also for the host.

Sorry, I have put out a fix that remembers what you have previously selected for your emoji in custom games. However, brand new players who have never selected an emoji in the past will likely still have the snail. Soon you will be able to change your name and emoji in the lobby but it is a part of a larger update that is not ready yet. Thank you

Hey, I've noticed that your average WPM on your profile is the average of all games you have ever played. When you have 100+ games, improving your typing speed won't have any noticeable impact on your WPM. I think it would be a good idea to calculate the average WPM of just the last 20 or so games, that way your WPM won't be forever held down by the lower scores you got many moths ago and will be an accurate representation of your current average speed :)
This would help a lot in typing. So lets say I need to type the word "The" Than when I type the word "The" I pressed "A" on accident. Usually I would press the delete button. But when I pressed the delete button I delete the "E" on the word "The" So my suggestion is that when I accidentally press "A" or other characters. Maybe you can do this. Thea Than you make the "a" red. I don't know if you understanded it.

Related to this, if you press space in the middle of the word it won't record it and require you to backspace. I think this is to do with having space instead of being recognised as a key being a check to see if the word is done and then moving on to the next.

I've just made some interesting changes that address both of your issues. You can now type a few wrong letters beyond the length of the word and you can now press space mid word. It will also show wrong letters into the next word if you keep typing. Let me know if this improves the experience

I had to revert the changes because of a hard crash it caused. I will look into it further. Although I don't know if they truly improved the typing experience. as the player could continue typing beyond the word even if there was a mistake...

Suggestion 1: In solo typing, there should be an option to have custom caret option where you can choose how many wpm you want the caret to run at, and then you can practice getting faster than that caret. This would help create goals, and make the experience better. Suggestion 2: After you finish typing a word, it should turn grey or any other dim color. This would give a better visual of how many words are left and how many you've finished.
Suggestion 3: In solo typing, there should an option where you can select what your minimum accuracy will be, if accuracy falls below that, the test would end. This would also let us make an option to keep a 100% accuracy, this would encourage someone typing to focus on accuracy more than speed.
Hey just a small UI suggestion, when editing the bio, can that be a pop-up where you can easily save & exit (Clicking 'X' or sth) other than having to refresh the Profile page?

Suggestion: I think it would be cool if the users would be able to change the sound when they type characters. For example, every time a key is pushed a bubble being popped is played.
Just more customization in general, such as changing the font of your text, or having different themes as your background.

There is a really big text that can't be typed if you don't zoom out completely as of today. Can you give an option to change the profile name (the name in the leaderboards) in the account settings just like you can change your bio?
suggestion : do censoring for racial slurs, met some racial slurs during the game and i think it must be good do censor those type of slurs, thank you.
um there is a bug i think when you go to the top matches and you go all the way down and you press the arrow to the next page it wont go to the next page i am not sure if it is supposed to do that or not just letting you know also i just started like 30 mins ago really great game 10/10 keep up the great work on making this game better
Also I am not sure if this is in Typer.io yet but um could you add where people can make there own passage so you can type it with a limited words policy like 100 words maximum and also you can make a page when you press quick play or solo play it shows up a page where you can pick a passage you wanna do.

Suggestion: Add a way to mark a chat message for review, for example "flag unfriendly" or "mark inappropriate".
Honestly I feel like some people just find ways to cheat their WPM, and that's why 9/10 accounts that get over 180 WPM+ are just guest accounts but named, not an actual account so you can't click on it. There even was one time where top score was above 210 WPM with not even 100% accuracy so that's fake
also one time there was a person that had 292 wpm but thats gone now

All current Hiscores and WPM were achieved legitimately. I don't feel like many people are trying to cheat.
The amount will always go up the more reach your website gets, that's just how it works. Most WPMs are legitimate but you have to ask yourself if the WR is around 220 WPM, how are people getting that without even getting 100% accuracy, let alone 292 WPM lol

There is no record of 292 wpm on the site. That was my account and I was testing something. It was removed instantly. World records are done with the person typing for one minute straight. Many quotes do not even last 5 seconds so much higher speeds than normal are achievable.
Even so, with the shortest quotes I have personally seen, getting a 210+ is incredibly hard, let alone 220+ lol... Not saying it is impossible but some days it feels like suddenly 5 people with a named guest account all get over 200+ out of nowhere like they set a date to do that lmao

On the home page hiscores under "all time" you can see the highest scores on the site. Currently there is no one with or without an account that has 200+ wpm. I personally review all very high wpm entries and I will continue to keep entries fair. Since the site is growing quickly, I am considering removing non-account entries from the hiscores in the near future.
Fix the servers I'm getting kicked out and switched to a different race over and over again
I found why the server gets the refresh error, so when I type a "?" and press enter in the chat, it happens.

I found an in issue. I'm used to using CTRL-ENTER to go to the next race in Quick Play, but if you use that in Group Play, it takes you to a blank screen where nothing happens. So, you have to make a new room. Perhaps CTRL-Enter in group play should start a new game.

Every time a start a New Game in the group play, and the 10 seconds go out, my screen automatically goes down and I have to scroll up, which took a few seconds.

Hey, is it possible to add some kind of notifying system, so that I could ask someone who's online to join in on a multiplayer game. Because most of the players here play on "Solo" .And "Quick Play" is kind of getting boring due to too many bots. It's totally fine if it isn't possible. Thanks.

Hey, just found this post. Have a few suggestions 😁 1. Can solo play not count toward our race count win/lose ratio? 2. People have been copying my username and emoji, can you change that to where a username cannot be replicated? (I don't care that much about the emoji) 3. Chat usually disables after about 30-45 seconds of chatting after the game ends, which is a little bit frustrating when you're having a good conversation with someone. Or maybe it's like a message limit? Not sure. 4. Can you adjust the bots in the game to where they match the opponents average for good competition? Or maybe like 5 WPM below all-time average? 5. Can you include a 'report' button for someone's profile just in case their WPM is suspiciously high 300WPM+. 6. Can you adjust the texts in game to where if you get an insanely long one you don't have to scroll up and then start typing but then it just relocates you back to the typing box? For some reason, my display name (the username that you pick once making an account not while making an account) will delete itself and just not work, and it'll show up with a random one.
Can you add color schemes like monkey type? It would be very easy to implement and would look very good on this site.

Are leaderboards supposed to work for custom matches? It would be great if they did. You can see the ranking at the top of the page on each person's icon, but not a leaderboard for a custom match. We like to use it for little office typing races.
if there was one for a custom match, you DO realize people would abuse the hell out of it by making custom text and typing 300+
